The future of feed

Here we are, the final chapter! We hope you’ve learnt something, and please ask us if you want to know more about any of the topics we have covered in this series.

It’s time to talk about the future. As a responsible global player, Skretting has long recognised that we must innovate to enable aquaculture and seafood supply chains to keep pace with the food demands of a fast-growing population.

This must be done in the most pro-planet way possible, with a strong focus on the protection of endangered species and sensitive ecosystems. With the understanding that we need to be more productive with less resources, we are committed to applying new cost-effective and sustainable technologies to our business, as well as cutting emissions and using energy more efficiently.

Securing the future of feed

Despite the clear growth trends, fish and shellfish account for only 7% of the protein consumed worldwide, while just 2% of all the food that we eat comes out of the sea. This is despite our oceans covering more than 70% of the Earth’s surface!

What would we see in the future of aquaculture if we had a crystal ball? With the innovation investment in place, we predict leaps in process technology, ingredient use and radical changes to farming systems, all contributing to a more sustainable, circular food system. At Skretting, we are so excited for the extraordinary technology advances and how they will positively impact the industry.
