Skretting Indigenous Aquaculture Scholarship Program (SKIA)

Skretting believes supporting aquaculture workforce development in indigenous communities is crucial for the sustainable growth of farmed fish as well as improving local food security.

Skretting recognizes and respects the rich cultural heritage and knowledge systems that indigenous communities possess. By investing in the educational and vocational aspirations of indigenous youth, we empower them to carry forward their traditions and contribute to the overall well-being and resilience of indigenous communities. Education and skill-building opportunities open doors to economic self-sufficiency and a sustainable quality of life.

The Skretting Indigenous Aquaculture Scholarship is a one time cash scholarship of up to $2500 for a student pursuing an Undergraduate, graduate or Vocational/trade in an Aquaculture related field.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Skretting Indigenous Scholarship Program you must:

  • Be a First Nations individual pursuing education or training in Aquaculture

  • Demonstrate financial need and academic merit

How to Apply

To apply for the scholarship fund aimed at supporting First Nations workforce development in aquaculture and fish farming, please follow the steps below:
  • Download and complete the application form provided

  • Attach the required documents to your form

  • Send your completed application form and supporting documents by June 30th to careers.skna@skretting.com

  • Please use the following subject line in your email: SKIA Application Form - <Your Name>

Required Documents

To be considered an eligible applicant for the SKIA scholarship program, you must attach the following documents to your application form:

  1. Proof of First Nations heritage or status (e.g., status card, band membership)

  2. Documentation of acceptance into a program related to Aquaculture studies

  3. A written application letter outlining your passion for aquaculture, career aspirations, and how the scholarship will help you achieve your goals. 500-1000 words
