Aquaculture America, the industry’s biggest trade show in North America returned this year. The event was held in the beautiful city of San Antonio, Texas and brought the aquaculture industry together again and this time in person. Considering the current situation, there were specific measures in place related to COVID-19 safety protocols.

Although the turnout at the event was lower than the previous year’s attendance, it still received an overwhelming response and positive interest from everyone stopping by each booth visiting current suppliers and making new contacts. At the Skretting booth, we had Adrian Ortiz, Sales Manager for Skretting USA, and Sabine Mader, RAS Specialist for North America.
With the growing interest in RAS farming and feed for RAS, we had the opportunity to showcase our latest innovation in RAS – The RCX feed. RCX is the new generation feed concept for Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) and part of our RecircReady concept. You can read more about RCX here.
Each year we host the Trout Farmer’s Social event, a small gathering of key industry professionals. As we didn’t get the chance to meet in 2020, we decided to bring back the event this year.
Together with Troutlodge, we organized a social evening to discuss all things in trout farming and feed. The event was held at the top of Tower of Americas restaurant, a 750-foot-tall observation Tower where one can get a spectacular view of the Alamo City. Meeting people in person creates a more profound and memorable experience. Our guests were pleased with the event, location and of course meeting with each other again (keeping in mind the limited capacity and social distancing measures).
The event began with Keith Drynan, General Manager, Troutlodge presenting their new Research and Development facility as well sharing the launch of their online guides and resources. This was followed by Aedrian Ortiz speaking about Skretting’s Extruded Steelhead diet for fast and efficient growth. He also spoke about the Bio-Oregon fish feeds which are specially formulated for Enhancement Hatcheries leading to optimized growth of fish and better conversion rates. The event later had everyone meet and socialize over wine, beer, and an amazing spread of food at the Tower of Americas.
While we had a limited guest list this year, we do hope that we can meet with more fish farmers and other industry leaders in 2022. We thank everyone who was able to make it to the tradeshow and all those who joined us for the Trout Farmers Social. We hope to see you all again when we return next year!
