Does fish feed have a shelf life?

Skretting products have a number of different recommended shelf lives. Despite the recommendations below, the shelf life will depend on how feed is stored and the temperature of storage. Never store feed in direct sunlight and never allow feed or it's packaging to become moist. Cool, dry and consistent storage conditions will ensure a long shelf life. All recommended shelf lives can be extended by refrigerating stored feed.

Salmon/Trout Feeds

Recommended shelf life is 6 months. These feeds have been over fortified with vitamins, minerals & pigments, which will remain at adequate levels for 6 months, if stored correctly.

Prawn Feeds

Recommended shelf life is 6 months. These feeds have been over fortified with vitamins, minerals & pigments, which will remain at adequate levels for 6 months, if stored correctly.

Barramundi & Yellowtail Feeds

Recommended shelf life is 12 months. These feeds have been over fortified with vitamins and minerals, which will remain at adequate levels for 12 months. After this period Skretting can not confirm the feeds quality.

Skretting's Local Hatchery Feeds

Recommended shelf life is 6 months. These feeds have been over fortified with vitamins and minerals, which will remain at adequate levels for 6 months. The nutritional value of hatchery feeds is very important and therefore, Skretting don't recommend use after this period.

Imported Hatchery Starter Feeds

Recommended shelf life is 24 months. These diets are produced by a high tech cold extrusion process, which eliminates the degradation of vitamins and minerals at the manufacturing process. Furthermore, they are vacuum packed to provide added protection for this highly important feed.
