Our people - committed to working towards a better future

Skretting would not be where we are today without our most important assets: our people. Their collective experience, knowledge and talents have helped us achieve considerable success while also driving progress within the aquaculture industry on a global scale. Here, some of our colleagues reflect on their careers, spanning over several decades, and chalking up a total of 121 years between them! As we celebrate our 125th anniversary in 2024, these stories are testament to the power long-standing partnerships between a company and its people can have.

Meet Nils Tore

Nils Tore Hølsbø, Sales and Key Account Manager at Skretting Norway, has worked with us an impressive 34 years. During this time, he has explored a range of opportunitieslet's dive into some of them.

What has always fascinated me about the Skretting culture, is the company’s ability and courage to find good solutions, turning challenges into opportunities for us and our customers.

“I joined Skretting at Lerang research station when it was just starting up in 1989. This was a rewarding experience allowing me to take part in establishing routines and the work environment, enabling the station to perform effective and reliable scientific trials. Lerang attracted a lot of national and international attention, which brought my wife Anne-Lise and I to Japan. There, we introduced extruded fish feed and feeding control to farmers who eventually became our customers - in fact, we were the first two employees of what is today Skretting Japan!

In 1995, I started in sales, which is the area I have the most experience in. I also spent some time as a manager of the Marine department in the early 2000’s, but for the last few years, I have been the southern sales manager and key account manager for one of our largest customers, Salmon Group.

What has always fascinated me about the Skretting culture, is the company’s ability and courage to find good solutions, turning challenges into opportunities for us and our customers. I chose to stay with Skretting for 34 years because it is, without a doubt, the leading company in our industry. Skretting has always been able to predict and adapt to the changes in the market and get the best out of its employees. I have had - and have - great managers who have shown me trust, challenged, and supported me, always giving me opportunities to develop. Some of the good customers I have today go all the way back to my first years in Skretting. In addition, Skretting has an unusually good, unified working environment where collaboration happens across the board.

Congratulations, Skretting, with the 125-year anniversary, and thank you for letting me be a part of your rich history."

Meet Gang Yong

Gang Yong Liu works as Sales Director in Skretting China. His journey has taken him through various roles, including finance and administration. Let's hear what he has to say about it.

My long-term commitment to aquaculture stems from my love of the industry and how Skretting's values resonate with me.

“I have been with Skretting for 21 years and have found myself a home here. During this time, I have been Director of Finance, Director of Administration, and Director of Sales. These experiences not only deepened my understanding of the aquaculture industry but also allowed me to practice our purpose of "Feeding the Future". With the growing demand for high-quality products, Skretting is committed to producing high-quality aquafeeds to deliver on consumer demand.

During my time with the original Shihai Company, the aquaculture industry was in a period of rapid development. The gross profit of the aquaculture industry was high, and the competition was not as fierce as it is now. After the acquisition by Skretting, the industry development shifted from high-speed to high-quality, and gross profit margins declined while the competition intensified. Only a global multinational such as Skretting, a century-old company with an ambitious corporate purpose, deep technological expertise, and continuous technological innovation, can lead the industry across industry cycles.

My long-term commitment to aquaculture stems from my love of the industry and how Skretting's values resonate with me. No matter which positions I hold or which business I am responsible for, I can always count on the support, understanding, and trust of my colleagues. This team spirit enables me to overcome difficulties and continuously improve.

Sticking with Skretting for the long haul is about more than just steady income and a stable job. The excellent work environment, work-life balance, and care, mutual collaboration, and communication between coworkers, also let me feel the value of unremitting hard work. Happy 125th birthday to Skretting!

Meet Jessica

Jessica Banogon Facturan is the Shipping Coordinator at Skretting Aquaculture Innovation and has worked at Skretting throughout her entire professional career.

Whenever someone mentions Skretting, whether in a private setting or in the media, I feel a sense of pride, like hey, that’s where I work!

"I joined Skretting 34 years ago and I have been here ever since! I was 19 at the time, and the youngest person in the organization. My first role was within administration, where I was responsible for tasks such as managing the switchboard, organizing internal and external events, and travel coordination. About 15 years ago, I became a Shipping Coordinator.

As a Shipping Coordinator, I am responsible for the import and export of raw materials, as well as samples and finished diets produced in our Feed Technology Plant, which are sent to our Research Stations around the world. Though much of what I do is “behind the scenes”, I believe that my role plays an important part in the product development process.

At Skretting I have always felt seen and included and this is just one of the reasons for me to stay. The company has truly invested in my development and has enabled me to mantain a healthy work-life balance throughout the years. Whenever someone mentions Skretting, whether in a private setting or in the media, I feel a sense of pride, like hey, that’s where I work!"

Meet Fernando

Fernando Cueva Gonzaga is the Supply Chain Manager at Skretting Ecuador. He started out as a Technical Assistant and has risen through the ranks, with roles overseeing production and logistics in his 32-year long career

Working here has given me the opportunity to expand my knowledge and develop both professionally and personally.

"I began my career as an assistant to the Technical Manager, where my main responsibility was to carry out quality control of the shrimp feed production process to ensure production excellence. I then moved to the role of raw materials warehouse manager before becoming an assistant in the purchasing department. There, I led the acquisition of essential raw materials as well as organising the logistics and storage of both local and imported raw materials, expanding my understanding of the supply chain and logistical operations.

I was promoted to warehouse and raw material logistics manager and have now served as the head of warehouses and raw material logistics since 2013, leading a team of 48 people. We manage both internal and external warehouses and are responsible for the reception, storage, and supply of various raw materials needed for the plant. We handle approximately 80,000 metric tons of raw materials every month, which requires efficient coordination and strong leadership.

Skretting Ecuador has had an extremely positive impact across the country, facilitating the development of the shrimp sector, generating indirect benefits for all of Ecuador. Our professional leaders don't just perform their executive roles but are also exemplary colleagues thanks to the values they have instilled.

My main reason for staying at Skretting lies in the implementation of the values it promotes. I really appreciate the fact that at Skretting, every employee is recognised and valued as a person first and foremost. Working here has given me the opportunity to expand my knowledge and develop professionally, while still having time for my personal and family life. We live out our values every day, and it creates a conducive and enriching work environment."
